Today, I will be reviewing One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus.
On the first day of school, five random seniors are sent to after-school detention. But only four of them make it out alive: Bronwyn—the brain, Addy—the perfect-on-paper beauty, Nate—a troubled yet misunderstood teen, Cooper—the star athlete, and Simon—the outcast who runs a school-wide gossip app.
Before their detention ends, Simon suffers a mysterious allergic reaction and unexpectedly dies. At first, it seems like a tragic accident, but investigators soon uncover that this was no accident—it was murder. Suddenly, Bronwyn, Addy, Cooper, and Nate become people of interest. It turns out Simon had planned to release shocking secrets about each of them the day after he died. But he never got the chance.
These four very different teens, all connected by this one shocking experience are now caught dealing with different emotions, situations, and stories that all bring them together.
I’m not a huge fan of thrillers, but I found this book while doom-scrolling on Pinterest for recommendations. I must say, it hooked me. I loved being able to step into the shoes of each character and learn their stories, feelings, motivations, and the amount of pressure they faced. If you enjoy mystery, friendship, and a good thrill, this book is perfect for you.
