After a long search for a good book, I stumbled upon an abandoned stack of books in my closet. There, I found an unfamiliar one. Last year, my mom had attended a local book fair and picked it up from the young adult section, without bothering to read what it was about. The book was The Infinite Moment of Us by Lauren Myracle, a cheesy yet cute romance story.
The story begins with Wren Gray, a recent high school graduate bound for Emory, where she’s been accepted into a prestigious pre-med program. Though she’s excited to be one step closer to becoming a doctor, she secretly wishes for something different: to join Project Unity and move to Guatemala for a year to carry out service projects there. Her parents have high expectations for her, and she’s scared about how they will react when she decides to defer from Emory. After her high school graduation, during the summer before college, she meets a classmate, Charlie Parker, whom she had never spoken to before. Charlie grew up in and out of foster homes after being abandoned by his biological parents and never truly understood what love meant. He had always kept an eye on Wren, admiring not only her beauty, but also the way she never held herself back in class. That summer, just before he left for Georgia Tech, Charlie got to know Wren. Wren’s parents didn’t seem to approve of her spending time with a guy from such a troubled background. But her unwavering and growing love for Charlie continued to deepen. As their relationship blossomed despite their differences, they gradually came to understand one another. While this book mainly explores the dynamics of their relationship, it also touches on themes of growth and letting go.
Will Wren find the courage to declare her decision to defer? And how will Charlie let go of his troubled past and embrace his relationship with Wren? This book is beautifully written, and It felt as though I was witnessing everything unfold before my eyes. The writing Myracle crafted felt nearly cinematic. If you are into emotional rollercoasters, and cheesy yet adorably written books, this book is just for you. Happy Reading!
